Thyroid Dysfunction

Thyroid Dysfunction

The adrenal glands produce hormones such as cortisol, estrogen, and testosterone that you cannot live without. These hormones are essential to your health and energy and significantly affect total body function. Cortisol helps you respond to stress as well as other important functions. In Cushing’s syndrome, there’s too much cortisol, while with Addison’s disease, there is too little. Adrenal fatigue is a syndrome identified by a collection of signs and symptoms, and occurs when the adrenal glands do not function as they should. Signs and symptoms may include feeling extremely tired, lack of energy, and/or feeling unwell. If you have an adrenal gland disorder, your compounding pharmacist can customize dosage amounts and formulations to meet your specific needs and omit any inactive ingredients, which could cause side effects. Your pharmacist may be able to formulate a variety of formulations to make your medication easier to take as well as better tasting.

How can compounds help?

Depending on the adrenal gland disorder, you may require certain medications to stop the excess production of hormones or may require hormone replacement. Regardless of the treatment needed, your compounding pharmacist may be able to prepare customized medications to suit your body type and symptoms and get you feeling better in no time.

Low Dose Naltrexone

Naltrexone was originally used to reverse the effects of opioid drug overdose in 50-100mg dosages. Doctors started using low doses (1.5-4.5mg) in the 1990s to normalize the immune system, inflammatory, & neurological disorders.

What Rheumatological conditions are being treated with LDN?

How does Low Dose Naltrexone work?

LDN Therapy has several mechanisms of action which work together to produce benefits for patients. Most experts are seeing significant improvement in over 80% of treated patients.

  1. Increases the secretion of Endorphins resulting in relief of pain, and inflammation.
  2. Increases the release of Opioid Growth Factor; reducing inflammation, auto-immune responses & tumor cell growth.
  3. Reduces inflammatory immune cell signaling (Toll like Receptor-4). When stimulated, these immune cells signal the immune system to work harder, decreasing auto immune & inflammatory responses.
  4. Calms glial cells in the nervous system which protects the nerve pathways.
  5. Increases dopamine levels, resulting in a feeling of well-being and increased energy.

What are the side effects of Low Dose Naltrexone?

Some patients do report headaches, insomnia, gastrointestinal issues and vivid dreams; which can be resolved by changing the dose or dosing schedule to more properly suit the patient.

How long does it take to see desired effects?

The response time of patients on LDN therapy varies by individual and type of medical condition. Most of our patients see significant improvement within the first two months however, experts agree eight months of therapy may be required to see maximum benefit.

Wound Care

Wound Care

Wound care compounding at Custom Care Compounding Pharmacy is designed to meet the diverse needs of both human and animal patients, providing tailored solutions for effective healing. Our specialized formulations are crafted to address various types of wounds, from post-surgical incisions to chronic wounds and scars. By customizing the ingredients and bases used in our compounds, we ensure that each treatment is optimized for the specific wound type and healing stage, promoting faster recovery and reducing the risk of complications.

For our animal patients, we utilize a unique base designed specifically for fur-covered skin that doesn’t leave a greasy residue. This innovation is particularly beneficial for pets recovering from surgery, as it allows the compound to remain effective even as the fur grows back. This specialized base ensures that the medication stays in place, providing continuous protection and healing support without causing discomfort or mess. Our veterinary wound care compounds are formulated with the well-being of pets in mind, offering a gentle yet effective solution for their recovery needs.

In human wound care, our pharmacy offers multiple bases tailored to different types and severities of wounds. We understand that serious and large wounds require more intensive treatment to promote healing and prevent infection. Our compounded formulations can include a combination of antimicrobial agents, anti-inflammatory medications, and pain relievers, all incorporated into a base that enhances absorption and effectiveness. This comprehensive approach helps manage pain, reduce inflammation, and accelerate the healing process, ensuring better outcomes for our patients.

Scarring is another critical aspect of wound care that we address through compounding. Scars, particularly those up to 2 years old, can be challenging to treat with over-the-counter products. Our custom compounds can be formulated with ingredients known to improve scar appearance and texture, such as silicone, vitamin E, and other skin-rejuvenating agents. By tailoring the formulation to the specific needs of the scar and the patient’s skin type, we can provide more effective treatment options that help reduce the visibility of scars and improve skin health.

Custom Care Compounding Pharmacy also prioritizes patient comfort and adherence in our wound care formulations. For humans, this means creating bases that are easy to apply, non-irritating, and suitable for various skin types. For animals, our focus is on ensuring that the compounds are safe if licked or ingested in small amounts and that they adhere well to the skin without causing distress. This attention to detail helps ensure that our patients—both human and animal—are more likely to use the medication consistently, leading to better healing outcomes.

Our commitment to personalized wound care compounding is driven by the understanding that every wound and every patient is unique. By collaborating closely with healthcare providers, we can create tailored treatment plans that address the specific needs of each patient, whether they are recovering from surgery, managing a chronic wound, or seeking to reduce the appearance of scars. At Custom Care Compounding Pharmacy, our goal is to provide effective, customized solutions that support the healing process and improve the quality of life for both our human and animal patients.

Dermatology

Dermatology

At Custom Care Compounding Pharmacy, we understand that skin conditions can be as unique as the individuals experiencing them. Dermatology compounding allows us to create customized topical creams and gels tailored to the specific needs of each patient. This personalized approach ensures that patients receive the most effective treatment possible, addressing their unique symptoms and conditions directly. By working closely with dermatologists, we develop formulations that are not only effective but also gentle on the skin, providing relief without the unwanted side effects often associated with mass-produced medications.

One of the significant benefits of dermatology compounding is the ability to combine multiple medications into a single topical formulation. Many patients suffer from more than one skin condition, or they may require a combination of medications to effectively manage their symptoms. Compounding allows us to incorporate various active ingredients into one convenient cream or gel, simplifying the treatment regimen and improving patient compliance. This approach not only enhances the effectiveness of the treatment but also reduces the likelihood of missed doses, ensuring better overall outcomes.

For patients with allergies or sensitivities to certain ingredients commonly found in commercially available dermatological products, compounding offers a safe alternative. We can formulate medications without the use of dyes, preservatives, or fragrances that might irritate sensitive skin or cause allergic reactions. This level of customization is particularly beneficial for patients with conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea, where avoiding potential irritants is crucial for managing flare-ups and maintaining healthy skin.

Custom Care Compounding Pharmacy also addresses the challenge of medication availability. Sometimes, commercially produced medications may be discontinued or temporarily unavailable, leaving patients without essential treatments. Through compounding, we can recreate these medications, ensuring that our patients have continuous access to their prescribed therapies. This capability is especially important for chronic skin conditions that require consistent treatment to maintain control and prevent exacerbations.

Another advantage of dermatology compounding is the ability to adjust the strength of medications. Standard doses of topical treatments may not be suitable for every patient, particularly those with varying degrees of severity in their skin conditions. By customizing the potency of active ingredients, we can provide a treatment that is neither too strong nor too weak, optimizing the therapeutic effect while minimizing the risk of side effects. This precision in dosing is key to achieving the best possible results for our patients.

Finally, the versatility of compounded topical creams and gels means they can be designed to enhance patient comfort and adherence. We take into account factors such as the texture, absorption rate, and ease of application to create formulations that are pleasant to use. When patients are more comfortable with their medication, they are more likely to use it consistently and as directed, leading to better management of their skin conditions. At Custom Care Compounding Pharmacy, our commitment to dermatology compounding ensures that every patient receives personalized, effective, and comfortable treatment for their unique dermatological needs.
